Majestic !
Pont du Gard is a Roman relic constructed as an aquaduct by
the Emperor Claude in the year 50AC.
It was built to supply additional water to the ever expanding population of
Nimes and was in use for 5 centuries up until the beginning of 6th century.
The stone used for its construction was local and
the old quarries can still be visited.
The Pont is classified as part of the World Heritage
by Unesco .
In a 50km radius around the Pont all sorts of relics and buildings from the period can be found in the Garrigues which benefit from the fragrances of Rosmary and Thyme all year round .
The thousand-year-old olive trees, the guards of the bridge...
There is a beach for your
leisure, be it lazily lying under the sun, going fishing, picnicking with
your family once you have enjoyed the various facilities available on site.
On evenings, the bridge gets illuminated with lights.
In addition, light shows and concerts are provided during summer evenings.
